When Black Became Gentle

This is Shadow, a sweet little Rottweiler pup. It wasn’t easy for Little Emi to become his friend at first, but now they are as inseparable as if they were stuck together with sweet honey!

As it turns out, Emi had been afraid of the dark ever since she was little, often associating black or dark colours with “frightening” things. Back when she was just two or three years old, she always needed her mommy and daddy by her side to fall asleep. In those days, she wouldn’t even dare to eat blackberries or black grapes, imagining them as mischievous spirits from a dark magic world.

As Emi grew older, things began to improve. She was a child who truly loved colours, coming to understand more and more that every single colour has its own unique beauty: Red roses and yellow sunflowers always bring immense joy. Green leaves feel so refreshing, white swans look endlessly graceful, and the brown earth feels gentle and steady. Even the night sky, filled with twinkling stars, may be dark, but Emi welcomes its soft, sparkling radiance with a gentle smile.

Even so, when Emi first met Shadow, his pitch-black coat still gave her a little fright, making her hesitate to step any closer. Luckily, Shadow was a deeply thoughtful and polite little pup. Though he longed to play with Emi, he could feel her hesitation. So instead of coming too close, he simply stood at a soft distance, waving a friendly hello with a warm smile.

And so, Shadow and Emi stayed at a gentle distance, quietly observing each other. Until one day, Shadow noticed Emi’s eyes were all red from crying. Gathering his courage, he found a beautiful leaf, gently stepped forward, and whispered:

“Hello, how are you? I am Shadow.”

Though Emi still felt a tiny flicker of fear, she didn’t step back. She rubbed her eyes and politely replied, “Hello Shadow, I’m Emi.”

Shadow presented the leaf to her, “This is for you. I hope you like it.”

Emi looked down at the heart-shaped leaf through her teary eyes, and a radiant smile instantly bloomed across her face. “It’s shaped like a heart! I love it so much. Thank you, Shadow.”

Seeing Emi’s bright smile and hearing her sweet thanks made Shadow’s heart leap with joy.

From that day on, Emi and Shadow became the best of friends. Simply being together brought them endless happiness. It was as if a vibrant, seven-coloured rainbow hung high above them every time they played, and little angels stood guard whenever they napped side by side, softly playing lullabies on their tiny harps.
